LA Chides APC for Turning Nigerians Into World’s Most Miserable People

 

Lawal Adamu Usman (Mr LA) has reacted to recent report compiled by Steve Hanke, an economist from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, US, that classified Nigerians as the sixth “most miserable people in the world”.

The Kaduna Central Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party said the outcome of the Misery Index calculated using economic indices including unemployment, inflation and bank lending rates is an indictment of Nigeria’s President Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

LA who spoke through his media aide, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman noted with regret that for Nigeria, the unemployment rate was the major contributing factor for the endemic mystery.

Mr LA viewed as unfortunate that within just four years of the APC administration, Nigeria is toping the list of countries harbouring most of the world’s 113 million people experiencing high levels of food insecurity as revealed by the Global Report on Food Crisis 2019.

“It is quite embarrassing that the report, which was released on Wednesday in Brussels, placed Nigeria on top of the six countries identified with the worst food crises in 2018, accounting for two-thirds of the total number of people facing acute food insecurity – amounting to nearly 72 million people,” LA said.

He warned that short-term outlook of food insecurity for 2019 also shows that northern Nigeria would be among the regions expected to remain among the world’s most severe food crises this year with an attendant risk of falling into Emergency (IPC/CH Phase 4) levels of acute food insecurity.
